Lifetime Service Award Ceremony
On Sunday, May 6, 2012, during the morning service at 10:30 AM, Victory Assembly of God in Tyler, Texas will be presenting the Lifetime Service Award to Robert G. Grimes Sr. and Dwite Weitner for their years of service and sacrifice in the Royal Rangers ministry.
The Lifetime Service Award is given in recognition by the Royal Rangers Alumni (RRA) for: outstanding service, dedication, and devotion over an extended period of time to the Royal Rangers ministry; promoting the goals of the Royal Rangers ministry and ministries under Royal Rangers; the advancement of Christianity, and the reaching, teaching, and keeping of boys for Christ; and supporting a local Royal Rangers outpost, section, district, region, or national staff. The Lifetime Service Award reflects the desire of the RRA to honor ALL of those who have dedicated their lives for the ministry of boys and to the service of Royal Rangers.
There will be a lunch served immediately following the service and all are welcome to stay, although they ask that you R.S.V.P. so they can have enough food prepared. You can R.S.V.P. by email to Kevin Husketh.
For those that are planning to be at the GMA Ceremony honoring Taylor Beavers that night in Terrell, the church has offered to keep the church open for everyone to relax after lunch until they need to leave to make it to Terrell for the GMA Ceremony at 6:30.
We apologize for the short notice, but hope that as many Rangers as can be present will come for this special ceremony to honor these men. North Texas District Superintendent Rev. Rick Dubose will be speaking on the ministry of Royal Rangers as a part of this service.
Victory Assembly of God is located at:
2915 SSE Loop 323
Tyler, Texas 75703
We do need to keep Bro. Weitner and his family in our prayers, because he is in stage 4 kidney failure.
GMA Ceremony
A GMA ceremony honoring Taylor Beavers will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 6, 2012, at the First Assembly of God, Terrell, TX (203 Main Street). Everyone is welcome.

Last Minute Updates for Pow Wow - 2012 Rangerlympic Games
Pow Wow is this weekend – April 27-29. We are expecting a good turnout of Rangers and leaders from across the district. The weather forecast is near perfect – mid 80s during the day and mid 60s at night. Please be in prayer this week for great services Friday and Saturday night. During the Friday night service we will be kicking off the 2012 Rangerlympic games with our opening ceremony, and we will also be honoring JC and Faye Spence for their 50 years of service in Royal Rangers.
Help Needed: We still need commanders to sign up to help run games and activities during the day on Saturday. You may sign up before camp at http://games.rrfrontier.com/. You may also volunteer once you arrive at camp; see Rick Adkinson if you can help on Saturday. Everyone who helps with games and activities on Saturday receives the staff patch for Pow Wow and the Rangerlympic medallion.
More Help Needed: We could still use a couple more men to help with food service. If you are willing to work long hours to help prepare and serve the food at Pow Wow, let our district director know (jonathan.trower@hot.rr.com).
Ice: For many years we have been able to make ice available at camp for a reasonable price. We are no longer able to get the same deal we had in the past. Thus, we will not have ice available for purchase at Pow Wow. There are several locations in Maypearl – David’s Supermarket, Dollar General, and the Exxon station – that sell ice at reasonable prices if you find you need more during camp.
Permission Forms: Don’t forget that for your Adventure and Expedition Rangers to participate in the challenge course and/or paintball they must have the appropriate permission form signed by their parent or legal guardian. These forms may be turned in at registration.
Visitors: Visiting hours for Pow Wow are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and during the evening services. If you have families, pastors, or other interested people who would like to see what Pow Wow is all about, feel free to invite them out for part of the day on Saturday. Visitors cannot participate in the activities nor do we have food service available (though the concession stand will be open).
FCF Scout Testing: Young Bucks who would like to participate in the FCF Scout competition will need to turn their applications into the FCF staff (Art 'Flintlock' Sullivan, Rodney 'Bow Breaker' Briggs, or Frank 'Jawbone' Super) on Friday in the FCF village behind the Ollie Henley Lodge. Testing will be held Saturday morning after the morning assembly. You will need to be in complete FCF outfit for the testing as your outfit will be judged. Come prepared to throw your 'hawk and knife and to start a fire with flint and steel. You will also be shooting black powder or primitive bow. Be sure to get your application completely filled out, including required signatures. There are also reference forms that need to be completed. It’s too late to have those mailed, but you can bring them to camp in a sealed envelope and turn them in with your application. You will NOT be able to complete the paperwork at camp, as there are signatures required from people who likely won't be at camp. These forms can be found on the FCF website.
Pastor Approval Form
With Pow Wow this weekend, it’s important to remember that anyone over the age of 18 will need a pastor approval form to stay overnight at any district event, including Pow Wow. This form needs to be filled out by the senior pastor or a pastor that is familiar with the adult. This form can be found on the district web site and in the event packet for Pow Wow. If you have already filled this form out for 2012 and received your pastor's signature, you won't need to do it again for the rest of 2012. If you had gotten your pastor's signature in 2011, you will need to do this again for 2012. The pastor approval form is required to be done every year, and it doesn't carry over from one year to the next. To verify if this form is on file for 2012, email Jonathan Trower.
Winter Camp 2012 Theme
If you are planning to participate in the video competition at Pow Wow for videos promoting Winter Camp, you’ll want to make note of our Winter Camp theme and include that in your videos. Our theme for this year's winter camp is Mission: Improbable. More information will be released on winter camp in late summer early fall as we finalize plans for winter camp. Begin making plans to be at Lakeview Camp on November 9-11, 2012.
Discovery Training Camp
If you have boys that are in Discovery Rangers, please note that the Trinity Valley Section will be hosting a Discovery Training Camp on June 8-10, 2012, on the backside of the Pleasant Hills Children’s Home property. This camp is open to all Discovery Rangers. The price is $65 for chartered outposts and $75 for non-chartered outposts. The price includes 6 meals, a t-shirt, a ball cap, and workbook per camper. The application is available online. For more information, please contact Nolan Fox at nolenfox@gmail.com.
Upcoming GMA Ceremony
A GMA ceremony honoring Taylor Beavers will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 6, 2012, at the First Assembly of God, Terrell, TX (203 Main Street). Everyone is welcome.

Pow Wow Work Day
Our Pow Wow work day is coming up on April 14, 2012. We have a lot of work that needs to be done at the campground to get ready for this year’s Pow Wow. Camp will be open beginning Friday night if you want to come with your outpost and camp out. Lunch will be served on Saturday for everyone that comes and works. This work day will be doing work on the camp and allowing outposts to reserve their site for Pow Wow and to work on this site to get it ready for Pow Wow a couple weeks later.
Pow Wow - 2012 Rangerlympic Games
While the pre-registration deadline for the registration discount has passed, that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on this year’s Pow Wow. We are just a few short weeks away from the start of the 2012 Rangerlympic Games – North Texas Pow Wow. Our Pow Wow event packet is available to download from our web site. (http://www.ntxrr.org/documents/2012/2012%20Pow%20Wow%20packet.pdf). Pow Wow is going to be an exciting fun-filled event for everyone. We will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Royal Rangers this year at our Pow Wow. Games and activities will follow the Olympic theme. The Rangerlympic Games, as we call them, will be a fun time of friendly competition for all of the boys. We are looking forward to some wonderful spiritual services with Dave Franklin as our guest speaker. If you have any boys in FCF, then encourage them to consider running for our district scout and assistant scouts. We'll be holding our scout selections at Pow Wow this year. More information on scout selection will be available as we get closer to Pow Wow.
Pastor Approval Form
With Pow Wow quickly approaching, it’s important to remember that anyone over the age of 18 will need a pastor approval form to stay overnight at any district event, including Pow Wow. This form needs to be filled out by the senior pastor or a pastor that is familiar with the adult. This form can be found on the district web site and in the event packet for Pow Wow. Winter Camp 2012 Theme
For churches that are planning to compete in our video competition at Pow Wow, we wanted to go ahead and announce our theme for this year's Winter Camp so you can incorporate the theme into your videos. Our theme for this year's Winter Camp is Mission: Improbable. More information will be released on Winter Camp in late summer early fall as we finalize plans for Winter Camp. Begin making plans to be at Lakeview Camp on November 9-11, 2012.

Frontier Gazette
The National FCF has released their first issue of the Frontier Gazette. It can be found online on the National FCF web site.
Frontier Adventure Results
On March 30-April 1, the Shawnee Trail Chapter held a Frontier Adventure for new members to join FCF. Our new crew of Green Horns came in looking excited and more than a little nervous.
Our candidates did well; we had 7 candidates show up and we have 7 new Frontiersmen. There was an awesome display of team work and fellowship among these candidates during their test. The staff did a phenomenal job! Chapter FCF staff would like to thank God for His help in pulling this Adventure off and the favor He gave everyone.
So your new FCF Members (sponsor is in parenthesis) are:
- Reagan Zaragoza (Carson Zaragoza)
Dakota McRee (Nolan Fox)
Caleb Fox (Nolan Fox)
Joshua Snyder (Tanner Farley)
Payton Brown (Frank “JawBone” Super)
Austin Marshall (Brian Marshall)
Ethan Heard (Zak Smith)
Thank you again for your support and prayers. Our desire is to see everyone to come away from their Adventure closer to God. Please take the time to congratulate the new members and say something encouraging to them.
Royal Rangers History Online
During this year Royal Rangers are celebrating our 50th anniversary. Some of you have lived much of our history, while others are fairly new to the Royal Rangers. If you would like to catch up on some of the early history of the Royal Rangers ministry, you can check out a discussion thread on RangerForums. The address to the thread is http://www.rangerforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=7651
New Camping Area Available
The primitive camping area at Lakeview south of Highway 66 is available for use by outposts who would like camp at Lakeview but in a different setting than what your boys experience when they come to district camps. This camping area has no facilities or running water, but there is access to a large tank with good fishing. If you would like to book this area for an outpost camp, contact the district director (jonathan.trower@hot.rr.com) and he will be glad to schedule your group. There is no charge for using this primitive camping area.

Pow Wow - 2012 Rangerlympic Games
Pre-Registration Deadline Approaching
Pow Wow 2012 is quickly approaching, but the pre-registration deadline is approaching even faster. To save your boys and leaders money on your Pow Wow registration, you need to get your pre-registration postmarked by April 2.
If you need a copy of the 2012 Pow Wow packet, you can download it from the district Royal Rangers website (http://www.ntxrr.org/documents/2012/2012%20Pow%20Wow%20packet.pdf).
Several commanders have asked if Ranger Kids can attend Pow Wow. Our longstanding policy has been that Ranger Kids are welcome to register and attend as long as their dad is with them at the camp. But you do have to realize that most of the activities are going to be geared to older boys (Discovery Rangers, Adventure Rangers, and Expedition Rangers).
A note about credit cards: for the past several years the North Texas District has underwritten the fees that banks charge whenever a credit card has been used at any district function. Last year those fees amounted to about $800.00 for Royal Rangers functions. The district has had to start passing those fees along to the various ministries in the district. Thus, while it is still possible to pay your Pow Wow fees with a credit card, you can help the overall Royal Rangers budget if you can pay your registration fees with a church check rather than a credit card.

LEAD 2012
LEAD 2012 is coming up later this week, March 15-17 at the Hyatt
Regency hotel at DFW Airport. For those that are planning to attend LEAD
2012, the attire is the utility uniform for Thursday and Friday morning
and special uniform Friday afternoon and Saturday. The attire for those
attending the Silver Eagle Celebration is any historical accurate RR
uniform or FCF outfit.
We are the host district for LEAD 2012. It would be great, seeing as
most of us live relatively close to the hotel, if the North Texas
attendees could stick around Saturday afternoon for a while to help the
national office staff tear down and pack.
Anyone that has a room reserved at the hotel and would like a roommate
to help cover the cost, please contact Jonathan Trower.
All organizational leaders (serve on the sectional or district staff)
are invited and encouraged to attend LEAD 2012 – the National Council
and Conference for Royal Rangers organizational leaders. If you haven’t
already registered, the price to register on-site for LEAD 2012 is $130
if you are in a chartered outpost ($153 if your outpost is not

http://royalrangers.com/lead/.
Fred Deaver Artwork Available
Fred Deaver, our former national FCF president and a world renown artist, will be at LEAD on March 15-17. LEAD will be held at the Hyatt Regency at DFW airport, so it is right in our district. Even if you are not attending LEAD you are invited to stop by the hotel and see Fred and view his artwork. His paintings and bronzes would look great in almost any setting, and he is willing to work with you on a payment plan, so almost anyone can afford to own some of Fred’s artwork. And his work is available in a wide range of prices, so it may be easier for you to purchase something that you have thought. Exhibits at LEAD will be open Thursday and Friday during the day, and Saturday morning.
Old Fashioned Barn Raising
Many people across the district have been asking what they could do to help Gary and Sheri Bierschwale recover from the fire in their house. We have set up a day to do some demolition and construction at their house on Saturday, March 17. The work will begin early and go late, so if you can only help part of the day that would still be helpful. We will provide breakfast (sausage and egg burritos and pastries) at 8 a.m. and lunch (barbeque brisket sandwiches, beans, and potato salad) at 1 p.m. The address is 5 Carey Ln, Lucas, TX.
If anyone wants to come help, we are asking them to bring their own tools and equipment. Things that will be necessary are the following:
- Heavy soled shoes –NO FLIP FLOPS. There is quite a bit of burned debris, and there will be nails.
- Gloves
- Safety glasses
- Flat ended shovels
- Hammers and/or sledge hammers
- Pry bars
- Wheel barrows or trash cans with wheels to help move debris to the dumpster
- Bottled water
Folks need to be aware that the utilities are turned off at the house and so there is no water and no toilet facilities.
Upcoming Leadership Training
The Austin Section will be offering the Ranger Essentials class on Saturday, March 24, 2012, at GT Austin. The class begins at 8:00 AM and is an eight hour course. The cost is $25 and includes lunch. The uniform for this training class is Ranger casual or the utility uniform. Contact Rick Adkinson for more information. GT Austin is located at 2700 Northland Dr.; Austin, TX 78756.

Pastor Approval Form
With Brush Poppin’ and Pow Wow quickly approaching, it’s important to remember that anyone over the age of 18 will need a pastor approval form to stay overnight at any district event, including Brush Poppin'.
Requirements for Gold Medal of Achievement Changing
The requirements for earning the Gold Medal of Achievement will be changing from the 2002 requirements to the 2010 requirements at the end of the year. If you have boys who have been working on their GMA, particularly boys who have completed their Silver Medal, they will most likely want to complete their GMA under the 2002 requirements. They have until December 31, 2012 to complete them under the 2002 requirements; after that date they will have to transition to the 2010 requirements. The GMA application is available at http://agwebservices.org/Content/Resources/2010%20New%20Program%20GMA%20Eform-fillable.pdf – the first and third pages are required for a boy completing the GMA on the 2002 requirements, and the first and second pages are required if he is completing his GMA under the new requirements. Whenever you have a boy complete his Gold Medal of Achievement, be sure to send the completed application to the district Royal Rangers director, Jonathan Trower, so the interview may be scheduled and the processing of the application completed.

Our theme for Pow Wow is a takeoff the Summer Olympic Games, which are being held in London this year. We are calling our event the Rangerlympic Games. We'll have many exciting activities for boys to participate in and we are looking forward to some wonderful spiritual services with Dave Franklin as our guest speaker. If you have any boys in FCF, then I encourage you to talk to them about running for our district scout and assistant scouts. We'll be holding our scout selections at Pow Wow this year. More information on scout selection will be available as we get closer to Pow Wow.

We also have lots of trees that need trimmed. So we have added an extra work day at camp specifically to cut wood and trim trees. Art Sullivan will have some extra chain saws available if you need one, or you may bring your own. This work day will kick off at 8 a.m. on Saturday, January 28. Contact Art for more information.
Update on Building Projects at the Royal Rangers Camp at Lakeview
At Winter Camp our district director presented a challenge to the leaders of our district to help fund a new bath house on the north 40 at camp. We can now report that thanks to the generosity of a donor we now have the $30,000 to build this bath house. Construction will begin soon.
Also, as many of you have seen as you have been at camp we have needed to repair the siding on the top of the lodge and first aid building. Thanks to the generous donation from another individual we have the funds for the siding, so this project will also begin shortly.
We still have many building needs at camp, from maintenance of existing buildings to renovations to make existing buildings more useful. So while we are done raising funds for the new bath house, we could still use your help, and that of your church, to raise funds for these other projects. Donations may be sent to the district Royal Rangers office (North Texas Royal Rangers, PO Box 1188, Hurst, TX 76053-1188, (After June 1, 2012 address is P. O. Box 838, Waxahachie, TX 75168-0838)) and marked for "account 11-4606 -- building projects."
We also have the Compass Program that helps raise funds throughout the year for maintenance of our existing buildings. Participants in the Compass Program pledge to send at least $10 per month to the district Royal Rangers to help with camp maintenance. Last year this program provided some much-needed funds, so THANK YOU to each one who participated last year. More information on the Compass Program may be found here.

Pow Wow 2012

This year we will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the founding of Royal Rangers. Dave Franklin will be our speaker. Dave grew up in Royal Rangers at Oak Cliff Assembly of God in Dallas. His father moved the family to Springfield in the early 1970s to join the national Royal Rangers staff, and Dave attended Central Bible College in Springfield. Dave now serves as the NW regional coordinator for Royal Rangers.
Games

Games, as we call them, will be a fun time of friendly
competition for all of the boys.

Update on Recent Prayer Request
There have been a couple recent prayer requests from Bill Harrison for his wife Lynn. He wrote the following earlier this week:
Update on the funds for my wife's surgery....I give praise to a great big on-time God. We were able to come up with $900 leaving a balance of $500 and through an anonymous donation from a Royal Ranger and the special offering taken up at my church today (1/1/12), God provided the balance plus some extra for Lynn’s surgery on Tuesday. Please continue to pray for her, that surgery goes well and recovery is a speedy one.
Thanks for your prayers,
Bill “Tinker Bell” Harrison
